CONCEPT

Wander is a temporal pop-up exhibit

designed to bridge the gap between a full

museum experience and at-home learning,

offering a flexible, semi-private space in

public settings.

ROLE
Solo Project / Experience & Interaction Designer

TIMELINE
Fall 2024 / 12 weeks
PROBLEM: Museums often feel too time-consuming or overwhelming for busy young professionals. At the same time, at-home learning can feel passive and disconnected. People want cultural experiences that are flexible, engaging, and personal, without committing to a full museum visit.

APPROACH: Through research on adult learning habits, I identified a need for experiences that are modular, semi-private, and personalized. Wander combines physical pop-up hubs with a supporting app to deliver curated, multi-modal content that adapts to each visitor’s interests.

INSIGHTS: Users want short, tailored experiences that fit into busy schedules. Personalization and reflection make learning more meaningful and memorable. Local context and environment add uniqueness, encouraging repeat visits. Gamification (badges + hub exploration) helps motivate ongoing curiosity and discovery.
PROJECT TAKEAWAYS
  • Stepping outside of my usual color palettes and comfort zone helped me develop a distinct visual identity and atmosphere for this project
  • Building mood boards and creating unique city branding added depth and cohesion to the overall experience
  • Research-driven insights directly shaped the design, reinforcing the importance of grounding concepts in user needs

FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES
  • Partner with museums and cultural organizations to sponsor Wander Hubs as flexible, adaptive exhibits in public spaces
  • Conduct further user testing across the full journey — from culture profile creation, to the personalized Wander Hub exhibition, to post-visit reflection and itinerary suggestions
